🎷 The Saxophonics is a small ensemble that formed in 2020, when the Troy Community Band was on pause due to the pandemic. As shutdowns stretched on, a few brass players began meeting outdoors as a quintet — and not to be outdone, a group of woodwind players started meeting as well. That woodwind group evolved into the Saxophonics, and we've been playing together ever since.
Our repertoire is varied and includes jazz standards, pop and rock covers, classical transcriptions, and themes from movie and video games. Much of our music is arranged by members of the group, which keeps our concerts personal and fresh.
Our instrumentation shifts depending on the players and the piece — sometimes it’s all saxophones, other times we mix in flute, clarinet, whistles, or whatever else we have laying around at home. We enjoy experimenting with different sounds and arrangements to fit the mood and music.
Note: The Saxophonics are an invitation-only ensemble and not open for general membership like the full Troy Community Band.
